MUSCAT: Arundhati Ramesh and Kiko Wiryawan cornered glory at the Villerroy & Boch + Hansgrohe Open table tennis tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman when they won the girls under-16 and the boys under-16 singles title respectively.

In the girls singles final, Arundhati shrugged off the loss of the first two games and fought back bravely to win the next four to register a brilliant 9-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 over Aania Adap. In a thrilling match, Aania squandered a two-game advantage as Arundhati recomposed herself and held her nerves as Aania kept up the fight until the last point. Lady luck deserted Aania who held a slender lead in the fourth and fifth games before Arundhati took the upper hand and went on to win the title.

Kiko Wiryawan put in a superlative display to defeat fancied Shounak Kelkar to claim the boys under-16 singles title. In the final, Kiko recovered from a slow start and a brilliant opening game by Shounak. The Indonesian took stock of the situation and played a brilliant all-round game to win the next four games to win the boys under-16 singles title with final scores of 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.
