MUSCAT: HH Sayyidah Dr Mona bint Fahad al Said, SQU Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation, received on Tuesday a delegation from the University of Bologna, led by Prof Alessandra Scagliarini, Vice Rector for International Relations. They reviewed the existing relations between the two universities and the ways to strengthen and widen the partnership and joint activities in teaching and research.

Researchers specialised in human genetics at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences at SQU have conducted a number of studies in genetics and consanguinity in collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bologna.

Prof Alessandra Scagliarini briefed about the progress of her university in terms of internationalisation and social engagement. “The University of Bologna offers a variety of excellent, internationally recognised programmes. Students are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in a wide range of subjects and open up their horizons. Some programmes are run together with partner universities of other countries and lead to a joint degree or to a dual or multiple degree; some of them are Erasmus”, she said.

HH Sayyidah Dr Mona al Said proposed enhancement of mutual partnership between SQU and the University of Bologna in medical science and expand the cooperation to other fields such as veterinary science and Arabic language studies to begin with. The collaboration will be activated through exchange of students and staff, and collaborative research subsequent to signing of a letter of agreement between the two universities.
