Summer Sports programme to commence on June 4

MUSCAT, May 21 - The oldest summer programme ever, Summer Sports, is currently setting down with all the latest preparations to launch the programme on June 4. Open days will be the first activities to be launched at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex for ladies and families. Summer sports organising committee has its preparation plans already chalked out. As many as 17 open days will be organised around Muscat governorate at different places namely Azaiba beach, Seeb beach, City Center Seeb, Shangri-La Resort, Quriyat beach and Wilayat of Bausher.


The Summer Sports programme, which is run by the Ministry of Sports Affairs, is targeting participants aged from five years and above. The committee arranged couple of sports and entertainment activities for who will take part in these open days including beach sports such as football and volleyball, focusing on some modern sports like sepak takraw and wooden ball. Also, committee allocated several gifts and prizes to the participants in various activities. Also, some valuable gifts for children who will take part in the theatre programme which will be accompanied by all the activities that are presented to the public.


Summer Sports, based on the theme of ‘Sport for All’, aimed to create a competitive and entertaining atmosphere for participants and deliver positive messages on the importance of practicing sports on the beach, its multiple benefits to the human body and spreading this culture for young people early. The programme, which launched in 2006, will propagate and encourage the people to maintain a healthy lifestyle using the platform of sports. Also, raising awareness on the importance of exercising and improving health and fitness indicators. In addition to that, this programme will guide people to discover some sports talents and be part of some sports clubs.
