OTTA board discuss WTT Youth Contender in Muscat next year

Muscat: Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) board directors discussed Muscat's hosting of the WTT Youth Contender in 2022 during the board meeting which took place on Sunday.


The meeting which was held remotely approved the organising committee of the mega TT event besides shortlisting some specialists for assistance in technical and logistics aspects.


Some of the World's top ranking players will attend the event in Muscat to compete for the title beside other ranking paddlers from different parts of the world will take part in the event.


OTTA successfully concluded hosting the WTT Youth event in October this year which featured participation of 100 players representing 16 countries.


During the meeting, which was chaired by Abdullah Bamakhalif, the board members reviewed the national teams plans.


OTTA’s Board recommended holding an external camp for the team in Iran to enhance the paddlers' technical performance and provide them the suitable environment for exposure and gaining more experience.

The camp will be under supervision of the Iranian coach Omid Shamas Shababki, the head coach of the national TT team.


Appointment of an assistant coach was an item in the meeting agenda. The chairman and board members agreed on signing with the female coach who will be in charge for the ladies’ team and she will assist in coaching the beginner paddlers.


The board discussed the resumption of Stag TT league in the forthcoming 2022/2023 educational year.


The board requested the national teams committee to do further study with Oman School Sport Association (OSSA) on various ways of improving the league.


Oman’s women TT activities were also reviewed during the meeting including organization of women's Open championship and having open TT days for junior female students.


The OTTA board appreciated the plans and requested from the committee to provide intensive plan on mechanism and feasibility of students participation.


The competition committee presented during the meeting, the latest preparations for the Sultanate Senior TT championship which will take place in January. The event will be held in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The board approved participation of Masoud al Shaqsi as the Sultanate representative in the GCC Games in Kuwait.
