Muscat: Salalah club was declared as the winner of the 2020 HM's Cup for Youth on Monday. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth announced the top winners of the His Majesty the Sultan’s Youth Cup for the year 2021 in a ceremony at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center. Seeb club were positioned as the runner's up after being third in the previous year while Al Bashaer club took third place award. As many as 42 clubs took part in this edition of the coveted cup. HE Sayyid Saud Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, was the chief guest in presence of top dignitaries and officials.


The winner, Salalah club, clinched the golden trophy with a cash prize of RO30,000 while Seeb representative Yousef al Wahaibi, vice chairman, delivered the silver trophy with a cash prize of RO27,000.


Seeb won the HM Youth Cup for the 12th time. In a big move, Al Bashaer jumped five positions to snatch the third place award as they won the bronze trophy with a cash cheque of RO25,000.


Ibri club, finished fifth place in 2019 edition, reached the fourth place. Title holders Ahli Sidab dropped to fifth place while Al Suwaiq ended in the sixth position. Al Nasr and Saham clubs finished at the seventh and eighth place respectively. Nizwa placed in ninth place while Quriyat rounded off the top-ten positions.



Significant Event


HE Basil Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecretary of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth delivered a speech during the ceremony and he said:” HM Youth Cup is a significant event that conveys HM Sultan’s care for youth and encourages clubs to achieve the desired objectives that ensure development of youth in different fields,” he added,


Al Rawas said the committee evaluated all the cultural, sporting and youth activities of the clubs including internal and external participation. “There were marks for the admin and finance sides of the club also to ensure improvement in this field. In this year, the clubs continued to use the electronic system to add all their internal and external activities. It is a transparent system which will allow all the team on knowing the marks from attending different events. The Ministry will work to update the system in the next year inline with the Sultanate of Oman’s vision of 2040,” he concluded.


All competitions


Speaking after the ceremony, Sheikh Ali al Rawood chairman of Salalah club, expressed his joy on the top clubs’ accomplishment.


“A special thanks to the Ministry officials for their continuous support to the local clubs and for their efforts to improve culture, sport and youth fields. Winning the title of the HM Cup was a result of hard work during the past months as the club took part in all the youth and sporting competitions which was organised by the Ministry, sporting committees and associations,” he added.


The chief of Salalah club pointed out that the club participated in some events organised by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC). “We are very keen to attend in all the events and allow all the club’s members to spread their talents and experience in different competitions,” he concluded.
