Muscat: The National Energy Centre (NEC) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) for the development and implementation of a Smart City pilot project in PDO’s Ras Al Hamra residential and leisure community. NEC, an Omani company specialised in Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart City projects, and Ras Al Hamra team will target sustainable smart infrastructure utilities monitoring and management to achieve significant reduction in water and energy consumption.

The collaboration between the two parties aims to seek opportunities for co-operation, strengthen the relations between the two parties and enhance and promote the exchange of expertise in relation to smart cities in areas such as smart water metering; smart street lighting; smart waste bin management; smart urban water management; smart energy metering and smart irrigation.

The project, which is scheduled to be rolled-out in 2022, ultimately aims to reduce the environmental footprint and improve the quality of living while also reducing the associated costs. This collaboration between two parties comes in line with Oman vision 2040 to achieve smart, sustainable and vibrant cities and a vital countryside with a viable architecture that ensures high quality of life, work, and leisure. -- ONA
