Oman end Serbia camp on bright note

MUSCAT: The Oman national football team concluded the overseas camp in Serbia on a bright note as they registered a 2-0 win over Serbia’s FK Vozdovac club on Wednesday. Amjad al Harthy (38) and Abdulaziz al Ghilani (81) netted the winning goals.


The triumph is the fourth successive victory for the Red Warriors in the friendlies at the Serbian international camp.


Oman outclassed FK Kolubara 4-0 in the opening preparatory encounter while in the second fixture, the Sultanate team edged Qatar club 1-0. The third victory came as Mohsin al Ghassani and his teammates managed to record an easy 3-0 win against Spartak Subotica club.


In the last preparatory game against FK Vozdovac club, head coach Branko Ivankovic was eager to test new faces and gave them the match exposure. As many as 11 players were substituted during both halves.


In the match against FK Vozdovac club, coach Ivankovic had two different starting line-ups.


In the first-half squad, Fayez al Rushaidi was the goalkeeper. Ali al Busaidy led the defence besides Juma al Habsi, Ahmed al Khamisi and Amjad al Harthy.



The experienced Harib al Saadi monitored the middle line accompanied by Abdullah Fawaz, Zaher al Aghbari and Al Munther al Alawi. Salah al Yahyaei was the supporting striker while Mohsin al Ghassani was the main striker.


In the second half, Ahmed al Rawahi was the goalkeeper. Abdulaziz al Ghailani, Fahmi Said, Khalid al Buraiki and Saud al Habsi were the defenders. Arshad al alawi, Omar al Fazari, Jameel al Yahmadi and Mohsin Jawaher were positioned in the midfield. Mohammed al Ghafri was supporting striker for the main forward Abdulaziz al Maqbali.


With the completion of Serbia camp which lasted for a month, the Croatian coach is in a better position to finalise the kick-off the list for the opening match in the deciding round of 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Japan on Thursday.


It is expected that the Sultanate’s football delegation will arrive at Muscat International Airport on Friday through a private flight. On the same day, the delegation will head off to Tokyo for the match against Japan on Thursday. After completion of Japan encounter, the team will return to Muscat on Friday on the same flight to gear up for Saudi Arabia match on September 7 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
