The number of active Covid-19 cases (currently sick), which touched nearly 33,000 in the last days of June, dropped below 10,000 on Sunday. With the recovery rate improving to 95.4 per cent, the number of patients currently sick of the virus dropped to 9,713 from 11,351 reported on Thursday.


The Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 686 new cases and 30 deaths over the past 72 hours.


The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 298,706, including 3,936 deaths.


Thirty patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of inpatients to 359, including 163 in intensive care units. The number of recoveries stands at 285,057 while the recovery rate is 95.4 per cent.


Meanwhile, an official concerned with the national campaign for immunisation told the Observer that vaccination is the national goal of the government as it seeks to return to normalcy and revive economic and social life.


The Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate started the first dose vaccination for school students, both citizens and residents.


The immunisation centres in North Al Batinah Governorate witnessed a good turnout from citizens and residents at the six centers in the governorate.


The number of people who received vaccination in North Al Batinah until last week stood at 342,322, including 288,517 Omanis, with coverage of at least one dose reaching 77 per cent.


Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has started receiving umrah pilgrimage requests from abroad for vaccinated pilgrims. Domestic and overseas pilgrims will have to include authorised Covid-19 vaccination certificates along with their umrah request.
