Arabsat’s sixth generation satellite soon

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: April 12 - The Arab Satellite Communications Organisation (Arabsat) is preparing for the launch of its first sixth generation satellite by mid of this year, a statement quoting the company CEO said. Arabsat offers a spectrum of radio and television services, telecommunications, and broadband services and the capacity will increase with the launch of the sixth generation of Arabsat satellite programme, which will allow the company to own the latest fleet in the region. This was revealed as Arabsat is holding its board meeting in Muscat, followed by the General Assembly with Arab ministers of telecommunications and the heads of Arab delegations.


Khalid Balkheyour, President and CEO of Arabsat, said that the General Assembly in Muscat is discussing a number of important topics such as the board’s annual report, in addition to subjects that support Arabsat’s future vision and strengthens cooperation among the Arab members.


The board of directors of Arabsat includes Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Djibouti. Arabsat has an integrated fleet of modern satellites (seven satellites, 10 at the end of next year).


Arabsat was founded in 1976 by the Arab League’s 21 member states and has been working to meet the needs of the Arab world from its head office in Riyadh and two satellite control stations in Riyadh and Tunis.


Arabsat carries more than 500 television channels, 200 radio stations, pay TV networks and a wide range of HD channels. It reaches millions of homes in over 100 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Central Asia, and is followed by more than 170 million viewers in 21 Arab countries.
