Cairo: Arabs have the right to defend Al Quds , said Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs at the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers to discuss the developments after US president Donald Trump’s decided to name Al Quds as the capital of Israel.

He added that the embassies of the countries accredited to the Palestinian State should be located in Eastern Al Quds, as proposed in the meeting. He said out that while he appreciated all positive plans and enthusiastic speeches at the meeting, which will boost morale and foster our vision to future, still they are below the expectations from the strong Arab League. He pointed out that the ad hoc committee held a three-hour meeting but came out with nothing as it lacked a clear vision for work. He noted that such issues may not be handled with ado but rather by groping our way in this turbulent world.

The minister pointed out that the US vice-president will visit the region soon and that Arabs and Palestinians should use this opportunity.

Arab foreign ministers on Saturday called on the United States to rescind its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and for the international community to recognise a Palestinian state.

In a resolution after an emergency meeting in Cairo, Arab league member ministers said that the United States had “withdrawn itself as a sponsor and broker” of the Israel Palestinian peace process with its controversial move.

The move by US President Donald Trump is “denounced and condemned,” Arab league chief Ahmed Abul Gheit told the ministers at the beginning of the meeting.

The ministers agreed on “demanding that the United States rescind its decision on Jerusalem...and the calling on the international community to recognise the state of Palestine...with east Jerusalem as its capital.”
