Arab Swimming Federation elects new office-bearers

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: April 15 - Arab swimming Federation (ASF), a regional body that promotes swimming among the member countries, has elected its governing body for the 2017-2021. Taha al Kishry from Oman has been reelected for the second time as president, while Ali Yakhluf of Algeria, Hameed Al Ghareeb from Kuwait and Ibrahim Naddah from Jordan have been elected to be the vice-presidents. At the day-long elections attended by nearly 17 member countries, six members have been elected through voting. Abdullah al Wahaibi (UAE) secured 14 votes, while Sarmad Abdul-Elah (Iraq) got 13 votes and Mohammed Haroun (Egypt) won 13 votes. Khalid al Khulaifi was won with 13 votes, while Rasheed Abu Zaid (Moroco) made his position as member with 10 votes.


Palestine having the privilege of a member chair in every Arab sport federation sent Fawaz Zaloum to represent the country in the international sports events. Khalid al Zubair, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee, has been elected as the honorary chairman for the Arab Swimming Federation.


Members from nearly 17 countries besides Oman including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Sudan, Jordan, Palestine and Djibouti were present at the elections which happen in every 4 years.


Sudan has been selected as a new member at the General Congress Meeting attended by 17 Arab countries.


Established in 1983, ASF strives to promote swimming and related sports and games in the region by enabling member countries in all regional as well as international sporting events. The hosting country for the Arab Swimming Federation Office is Morocco, Casablanca.
