Applications invited for private schools

Muscat, Jan 7 - The process of accepting applications for establishing a private school for academic year 2019-20 has been started by Directorate-General of Private Schools, established by Ministry of Education. The process will continue until the end of August 2018.


Those who wish to start a private school in Muscat Governorate should review Department of General Administration’s request for licences from Ministry of Higher Education or go to the concerned department of the general directorates of education in the governorates.


In the academic year 1972-73, there was only two private schools, with 115 students and 12 teachers, according to statistics available to the Ministry of Education.


During 2005-06, the number went up to 158, which were catering to 28,000 students.


According to National Centre for Statistics and Information, there are 1,725 schools in Oman accommodating 748,308 students and 68,384 teachers.
