China-based TCL, the company that holds the rights to manufacture all BlackBerry phones, has launched a new BlackBerry phone, aka the BlackBerry Motion at the Gulf Information Technology Expo (GITEX) event in Dubai.

The new BlackBerry Motion which was initially thought to be called Krypton, is an all touch screen phone with no QWERTY keypad this time round. The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch LCD IPS touch-screen display with a fingerprint scanner placed at the bottom which also doubles up as the home button.

The new BlackBerry Motion is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2.GHz and paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android 7.1 Nougat which will be upgraded to Android Oreo soon and comes with 32GB of internal storage.

On the optics front, the BlackBerry Motion features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP selfie shooter. The phone is backed by a massive 4,000mAh battery that can power the phone for nearly 26 hours with mixed usage. F Mahieu, the head of global sales for TCL, in a conversation with Engadget has said that the company hopes that many iPhone and Galaxy users would switch to BlackBerry Motion with its launch.

The BlackBerry Motion is a first BlackBerry phone to come with IP67 rating. This means that the phone can survive for up to 3.3 metres underwater for nearly 30 minutes.

The phone also features a USB Type-C port with fast charging capabilities.

The new BlackBerry Motion comes with a unique feature called the Convenience Key. The feature basically acts as a shortcut access to four options — Home, Car, Office and User.
