MUSCAT, JAN 9 - The fifth edition of the rebranded ‘Alfa Romeo Cup’ for 2018 has been launched for the golf enthusiasts in the Sultanate. The highly popular championship, organised by Dhofar Automotive, in collaboration with the Oman Golf Committee (OGC), was formerly known as the Chrysler Cup. “Oman has, in recent years, seen a dramatic upsurge in the infrastructural growth for the sport of golf. Launched in 2012, this challenging championship was the first ever inter-club tournament of its kind in Oman.

“The Alfa Romeo Cup in particular is a carefully designed tournament that pits the best golfers from each of the golfing clubs in the country against each other; thereby providing the perfect avenue for improved competition and interaction between the clubs and players.”

The tournament was launched at an exclusive press conference held at Almouj Golf on January 08, 2018 and was headed by Rhett Maxwell, General Manager of Dhofar Automotive, and Mundhir al Barwani, Chairman of the OGC.

Commenting on championship, Rhett Maxwell said, “Alfa Romeo is a brand widely associated with sophistication, sportiness, and luxury; qualities that make it a perfect match for a game as technical and prestigious as golf. Furthermore, this tournament has, over these past six years, earned a reputation as the premier golfing platform to engage the entire competitive golfing community in the Sultanate.”

As with the previous tournaments, amateur golfers in Oman will compete in one of the Sultanate’s most prestigious golfing events, with the finals guaranteed to generate huge interest and support from within the golfing community when it takes place this month.

Furthermore, in order to commemorate the new branding, Dhofar Automotive will be awarding a brand new Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce to the first person who scores a hole-in-one over the course of the two-day tournament.
