Alawi holds talks with FMs of Georgia, UK and Serbia

NEW YORK: The Sultanate participated in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York with a delegation led by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, with the participation of 193 countries and about 130 world leaders. On the sidelines of the UN’s meetings, bin Alawi met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, in which they discussed means of enhancing and developing bilateral relations between the two countries. He also met with Alistair Burt, Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Affairs in the United Kingdom (UK).


During the meeting, the two sides exchanged viewpoints on the latest developments in the region and discussed several regional and international issues of common interest. The meeting came within the framework of cooperation and friendship between the Sultanate and the UK. Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs also held a meeting with Ivica Dacic, Minister of Foreign Affairs in Serbia. The meeting discussed means of enhancing joint cooperation and strengthen relations in various fields between the two countries.


Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations opened deliberations of the General Assembly meeting with a speech warning of the increasing pace of chaos in light of collapse possibility of the world order based on laws and declining in democracy values, which led to imbalance of power in countries and societies, where the level of human rights has decreased by increasing the influence of power. US President Donald Trump delivered a speech, in which he spoke about the many achievements he made during his presidency period, pointing out at the domestic level to the remarkable and steady progress on the economic side, which created jobs in the United States of America. As for foreign policy, President Trump focused on the good relations binding his country with the GCC countries. — ONA
