MUSCAT, OCT 15 - Abdulaziz al Muqbali’s first-half strike earned a 1-0 win for Al Suwaiq against Dhofar as they extended the lead at the top of the Omantel League table after the sixth round of matches on Saturday.

Dhofar wasted a golden opportunity in the 81st minute to draw level as Said al Ruzaiqi failed to convert the penalty at the Seeb Sports Stadium.

With their sixth straight win, Al Suwaiq now have full 18 points from six matches.

Defending champions Dhofar continued their slump with second defeat and stay at sixth on the table with eight points.

Al Shabab edged past Muscat 2-1 to stay second with 12 points, after registering their fourth win.

At the Seeb Sports Stadium, Muscat took the lead in the 38th minute through Mohammed Ramdan al Amri.

A rejuvenated Al Shabab attacked with more purpose in the second half and they found the equaliser in the 57th minute. Though the match seemed to be ending in a 1-1 draw, Al Yaqoobi scored the injury-time winner to seal the three points for Al Shabab.

In a major upset, newcomers Mirbat stunned Oman Club 3-2. Oman Club led 2-0 in the first half. Mirbat changed gear in the second half to net three goals in the span of 16 minutes and turned the match in their favour. Mirbat shot up to fifth on 10 points with the win.

At Sur Sports Complex, Saham blanked Al Oruba 2-0. Saham are fourth with 10 points on better goal average to Mirbat.

Al Nasr are third after a 1-1 draw against Al Nahda at the Al Saada Sports Complex.

Goals came in the final quarter of the match with Al Nasr taking the lead through Younis al Mushaifri in the 71st minute and Al Nahda pulled level through a Yousuf Nasr al Salman penalty in the 78th minute.

Former champions Fanja’s dismal run continued as ninth-placed Sohar stunned them 1-0 as Khalifa al Jawhari’s 14th minute strike was enough to seal the match.
