Al Shabab keep top spot intact

By Sports Reporter — MUSCAT: FEB. 5 - Leaders Al Shabab kept their top spot intact after edging a fighting Al Nasr 3-2 in the Omantel Professional League (OPL) Round 14 match on Friday. With the win, Al Shabab (29 points) stayed one point clear of Dhofar (28), who blanked Muscat 2-0. At Sohar Sports Complex, Loks scored a brace (33rd, 56th minutes) and Arnist netted one in the 49th minute for Al Shabab. Amro Jeniat missed a penalty for them in the 76th minute.  Al Nasr took the lead through an own goal by Omar al Malki in the 22nd minute. Abdulrazaq bin Tairi reduced the deficit in the 93rd minute with the second goal.


At half-time the teams were locked 1-1. At Sur Sports Complex, Dhofar kept their hopes with a brilliant win against Muscat. Raed Ibrahim (28th minute) and Lawsen (64th minute) were the scorers for Dhofar in each halves. In the late match at Sohar Sports Complex, Saham edged Sohar 1-0. Jaldemar netted the lone goal in the 81st minute. Saham are in the sixth spot with 21 points. On Saturday, Al Nahda and Al Khabourah settled for a goalless draw at the Al Buraimi Complex. At Sur Sports Complex, Al Rustaq beat Al Oruba 2-1. Issam scored both the goals of Al Rustaq (‘60, ‘79). Mohammed Touqi hit the target for Al Oruba in the 64th minute after a goalless first half.
