Al Salam Club lift Oman Hockey Junior league title

North al Batinah club, Al Salam clinched the Oman Hockey Junior league title for the first time in its history. Al Salam edged Al Nasr 1-0 in the final match at the hockey field in the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Wednesday.


Shaikh Sultan bin Humaid al Hosni presided over the final in the presence of Capt. Talib al Wahaibi chairman of Oman Hockey Association and top officials. Al Hosni gave away the trophies to the top three teams and handed over the individuals awards. Ahli Sidab players claimed the third place after they won 6-3 against Sohar.


Ilyas al Noufli from Al Salam club was awarded the most valuable player trophy. Zuhair al Rushaidi from Nizwa club got the best goalkeeper award. Rushd al Fazari from Ahli Sidab grabbed the top-scorer prize. At the end of the awards ceremony, Talib al Wahibi presented a memento to Shaikh Sultan al Hosni.


Shaikh Sultan al Hosni stated that the talented players from both clubs will be of great value to the national teams in the future. “Hockey activities has been developed very well recently. Oman national team achieved good results and performance in the Asian level. The national team qualified for the Asian Games in Jakarta,” Al Hosni said.


“We have a proper plan to develop youth training centres of hockey. We wish all 24 clubs belong to hockey association to take part in these centres. Looking forward to more support from private sector to develop the national and junior teams technical level”, Capt Talib al Wahibi chairman of Oman Hockey Association, said.
