MUSCAT: Between the crossroads (Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah and Al Batinah) and in the most densely populated Wilayat of Al Seeb in the Sultanate, Al Sahwa Park is a group of gardens in one large park. Built on an area of 300,000 square metres, Al Sahwa Park is one of the most popular parks frequented by residents in Muscat.

“The Al Sahwa Park was opened on December 8th 2007,” Mohsen bin Abdul Rahman al Abri, Director of Parks Department in Muscat Municipality said. It includes many facilities including the Islamic-type architecture, the dancing fountains, the Islamic gardens, the palm gardens, the flower gardens, the park, children’s games, parking lots, men’s and women’s toilets and shaded seating lounges.

In Al Sahwa Park, there is a field work crew to serve the park on a daily basis. The Directorate-General of Plantation and Parks in Muscat Municipality has for years contracted with two companies, the first for the daily cleaning and the second for the maintenance of plantations, service facilities and construction works.

Al Abri added that the park opens its doors to all visitors from 9 am to 12 am. The municipality has set up four electronic boards to record the observations and opinions of the visitors about the park and to evaluate the general cleanliness of the facilities. These observations are reviewed daily by Muscat Municipality and working on the implementation of the requirements of the visitors. Muscat Municipality hotline 1111 works around the clock to receive feedback and suggestions from the public on services provided by the municipality.

About the future plans and the ideas for improving the park and its facilities, Al Abri said, “The design of two prayer halls for men and women have been completed inside the park and we are waiting for funds to commence the implementation. We are currently working to allow the use of parking spaces only during the opening time of the park, from 9 am to 11 pm and legal action will be taken with the violated vehicles, in coordination with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Directorate-General for Investment and Economic Development to develop a tariff for parking around the park, as well as opening an additional gate to the back yard of the parking area of the park. — ONA
