Al Rustaq stun Sohar

Minnows Al Rustaq stunned Sohar 2-1 to move out of relegation spot in the Omantel League fifth round match late on Monday. Mohammed al Matroshi struck the winner for Al Rustaq in the 75th minute as they moved up to 11th spot in the 14-team league with six points.


At the Seeb Stadium, Said Obaid put Sohar in front in the 43rd minute but Ahmed al Khalil’s own goal made the score 1-1 just before the break.


Omani coach Mohsin Darwish al Balushi had replaced Tunisian coach Hassan al Hashani at Al Rustaq after their 3-0 defeat in the His Majesty’s Cup last 32 round match against Saham recently.


Mohsin Darwish had coached Al Nahda, Fanja and Muscat clubs before.


The defeat put Sohar at seventh spot with seven points after five matches.


AL NAHDA MOVE TO SECOND


Later at the same venue, Al Nahda overcome a spirited Al Nasr challenge 3-2 to move up to second place on the league points table with 11 points.


Mohammed al Hosni scored a brace and Thiago Fortuso netted one goal for Al Nahda, while Omar al Malki and Shika Soori found the target for Al Nasr. The score was 1-1 at the half-time. At the Al Buraimi Sports Complex, Saham beat Oman club 5-3 in a high-scoring match.


Mohammed al Ghassani’s hat-trick was the highlight of the match. Faisal al Braiki and Iyevson also contributed for Saham.


Oman club’s goals came through Hani Thabit al Alawi and Washington an own goal from Saham’s Iyevson.


Saham moved to fifth spot with the win on 9 points, while Oman club stood last on the table without any points.
