MUSCAT: Defending a title is always a historic achievement, more so than just winning the one. Mazda Professional Cup defending champions Al Nasr are at the very verge of tasting what it feels like to make history but have a tricky semifinal test visiting Al Oruba who get in their way. Al Nasr, having already negotiated a tough tie with league leaders Al Shabab, will definitely look for the win. The title is just 2 wins away from their grasp, the men in blue will be spurred with the chance to make history. They face however, away from home, the resilient Al  Oruba.

Al Oruba players kept their composure to go past Al Suwaiq in a difficult penalty shootout and they have shown a sense of determination throughout the tournament. Both sides have plenty to play for, the game also an indication of how these two will shape up as rivals for the league’s title race in the second half of the season. Al Oruba will be hoping to use the home advantage. The game kicks off at 18:45 at the Sur Stadium on Friday.

AL NAHDA, SOHAR IN BURAIMI DERBY

The Mazda Professional Cup (MPC) has churned out yet another exciting match with a semifinal showdown between Al Nahda and Sohar.  Al Nahda have the home advantage, playing at the Buraimi Stadium. It is expected however, that the ever passionate Sohar fans will be in attendance with the stadium so close by. Both teams come into the semis after a strong performance in the previous round. The hosts having bested the form team of the season so far, Dhofar, to edge through by slender margins.

Sohar on the other hand, produced a dominant display against Muscat Club to sail through with a 3-1 scoreline. Sohar currently have an outside chance on the league title, while Al Nahda are firmly planted in mid-table. Odds are, the MPC is their best shot at silverware having already reached the semifinals. The game will indeed be an interesting one, with passionate fans only adding to the flavour. Plenty to play for, the game kicks off at 18:45 on Friday at the Buraimi Sports Complex.
