Age is nothing but a number

We should become more proactive in our lives by using our talents and wisdom. We should also set a good example to the young; it will help them prepare for their journey to old age — to start thinking positively about growing old.

Last week, I came to understand that age was holding the mother of a junior a hostage.

With junior and his sister as children to take care of, the mother feels that age is a hindrance to her achieving some goals.

She thinks that motherhood has made her too busy to find time for herself.

I know that she has many issues to deal with like running the house, taking care of the children and maybe her hubby too but she should not let those many issues weigh her down.

She should know that age is nothing but a number.

If her deepest desire is to look glamorous for her husband, she should aim for it. If the list in her mind includes rock climbing, surfing, or cooking an exquisite dish with a cookbook guiding her, whatever it is, she should go for it…. the sky is the limit.

Her age should not be a reason that hinders her for her search of a new lease in life.

She should, instead, just start doing them.

All these years, she has been doing a great job in raising the children and for sure has been a good housewife and she takes it as a blessing but if she secretly dreams of going back to school to get a degree or if she wants to become an entrepreneur or if the children are all grown up and the money is available, nothing should stop her from pursuing her dreams. Not so her age.

She should keep her motivation high because motivation is ‘our reason for doing’.

Motivation is what drives us to act in order to achieve our goals. We can be self-motivated when we give ourselves rewards. We feel pleasure and pride and we feel good about ourselves when through our efforts we’ve come to achieved something.

If, in the early years of her life, she was busy with so many other things and forgot to enjoy life, that was then and it is okay.

But now that she has time and she feels like it and she feels that she is ready, she should forget her age and go for it.

For most, the drive, passion and energy may be high but still some inner thoughts keep telling one that she is too old to be that ambitious. She should ignore such voices and keep doing things that she wants to do.

It is not late for anyone, man or woman, to start things afresh either.

It could be that you spent years of your life making mistakes, thinking of yourself alone, taking life for granted and so on and on. What is important is that you are still alive and that determination of resolving to change is enough reason to aspire.

You can always turn your life around anytime. Live your life and enjoy it to the fullest. You deserve to look and feel good. Refresh your wardrobe, remove all the old dresses and hit the gym. Go to the spa and the mall to spoil yourself. Fish out that good pair of heels you hid in your closet long ago.

We should become more proactive in our lives by using our talents and wisdom. We should also set a good example to the young; it will help them prepare for their journey to old age — to start thinking positively about growing old.

Never mind the age. You have a life to lead. Don’t allow age to hold you a hostage. Make age bow its head in shame. Have a nice weekend!
