By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: MARCH 7 - The Traffic Department of Royal Oman Police (ROP) has refuted reports that the age limit for acquiring a driving licence (light vehicles) has been raised to 21 from 18. ROP said currently the minimum age limit for getting a heavy vehicle licence is 21 and 18 for light vehicles (cars and bikes). The clarification came following reports that from today the age limit for getting a driving licence has been raised as part of the efforts to reduce the number of traffic accidents. Following the efforts of the Royal Oman Police, which included awareness campaigns and stricter penalties, the number of traffic accidents in Oman has come down over the past few years. For example, the number of accidents decreased by 28.2 per cent, injuries by 10.4 per cent and fatalities by 10.3 per cent over the past year.
