MUSCAT, Jan 23 - The Muscat Festival is a must-visit for food lovers. Little wonder the food section is among the most-crowded areas at both the festival venues — Amerat Park and Naseem Garden. Apart from the local or traditional delicacies, one can try out an array of dishes from across the world.
For instance, Majida al Souti, a young Omani entrepreneur, has displayed her products under the name ‘Um Raed for Sweets’ at Amerat Park.
“I was invited by the organising committed to present my home-made products. I’m excited to see the response,” she said.
She used to make desserts at home and give it to family and friends. “Positive reaction as well as encouragement from family, friends and everyone around me helped me take this forward,” Majida said, explaining her plunge into business.
She said she reached where she wanted to be, in less than five years because of social media, where she promoted her products.
“You need to have absolute faith in your ability. Only then can you reach your goal. When the opportunity came, I didn’t’ think twice.” She said some international brands had expressed interest in her products. She has been receiving business enquiries from them.
A wide range of products made from dates and sesame seeds, halawa al narjil, rahash, gourds and milk biscuits has been generating interest among the visitors.
