8,807 commercial agencies registered

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the number of commercial agencies that were submitted through the Invest Easy Portal in 2018 stood at 8,807 including 631 new commercial agencies, 68 updated or amended commercial agencies, 1,514 renewed commercial agencies and 6,594 cancelled commercial agencies.


“The provision of service through the Invest Easy Portal comes in a bid to facilitate registration and follow-up of transactions by investors,” said Yaqoub bin Shaikh al Dhabouni, Head of the Commercial Agencies Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.


“Investors, companies and entrepreneurs are encouraged to utilize the services provided through Invest Easy Portal and the available opportunities at the market which can enhance their market share and contribute to develop the private sector,” he added.


331 INDUSTRIAL LICENSES


The number of industrial licenses that were registered through the ‘Invest Easy Portal’ last year stood at 331 compared to 140 during the same period in 2017.


Hamad bin Said al Maamari, Acting Head of the Industrial Registers Licenses Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that the number of industrial projects whose investment cost range between RO 5,000 to RO 50,000 that were registered last year stood at 12 compared to 6 in 2017. The number of industrial projects whose investment cost ranges between RO 50,000 to RO 100,000 in 2018 stood at 4; the same number of 2017.


The number of industrial projects whose investment cost ranges between RO 100,000 to RO 500,000 in 2018 stood at 6 compared to 7 in 2017. The number of industrial projects whose investment cost is more than RO 500,000 in 2018 stood at 309 compared to 123 in 2017.


The process of approval for industrial licensing starts with submitting the application through “Invest Easy portal’’. It is verified in terms of plant location, activities, products, production capacity, equipment, tools, units of measurement and the name of the establishment.


EXPORT CERTIFICATES


Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued more than 23,000 export, re-export certificates and accepted certificates of food products last year. The number of certificates which is valid for export and re-export of food products, certificates for those whosoever concerned, and validity certificates issued last year were 23,127, compared with 21,258 certificates issued in 2017.


“The increase in the number of these certificates issued/ accepted by the companies was due to increase in the number of applications as well as hike in the demand for products manufactured in the Sultanate, said Naila bint Muhanna al Hinaiyah, a food quality control specialist at the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology. — ONA
