Muscat, July 31 - Eight people were killed, including four Omanis, when two vehicles collided in the Qatbit area of Dhofar (300 km from Salalah), late on Sunday. The accident occurred when the vehicles, including a taxi, collided.

The private vehicle was travelling at a speed above the permissible limit, according to sources.

The bodies of victims were shifted to a hospital in Thamrait.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP), which is investigating the cause of accident, said “driver fatigue” could be a possible reason.

It urged motorists to follow rules on lane discipline and overtaking and ensure adequate rest before embarking on a long journey.

Motorists attributed such incidents due to lack of a dual carriageway on the stretch and poor lighting of the streets, besides speeding.

Last Tuesday, three people were killed and 12 were injured when three vehicles collided near Qarn Al Alam in Adam. According to the ROP, the accident was caused by wrong overtaking.
