418 kg gold hallmarked in Dhofar last year

MUSCAT: The Precious Metals Measurements and Control Department at the Directorate-General of Commerce and Industry in the Governorate of Dhofar said that 418.495 kg of gold were hallmarked in the Governorate of Dhofar in 2016. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the gold that has been hallmarked at the lab during last year included natural and artificial pearls, precious and semi-precious stone, precious metals, normal metals coated with precious metals, items made of these materials, in addition to tradition ornaments and coins. The ministry said that it exerts sincere efforts in controlling the precious metals and stones to limit illegal practices and protect consumers and traders against any fraud by exporters or workers at the workshop. It also seeks to preserve the precious metals industry and eliminate custom evasion.  — ONA
