Fayiz al Junaibi, who rescued entire crew of a sinking ship off the coast of Al Jazer, was honoured with a humanitarian Award 2017 at Seatrade Middle East event on Monday. It may be recalled in September this year, a Tanzanian-flagged merchant ship sank off Oman coast near the Al Jazer wilayat in Al Wusta . The crew members onboard the ship were rescued by an Omani citizen, Fayiz al Junaibi, whose timely act was widely appreciated by the authorities.

Junaibi had alerted the local police station who took the crew members to the Al Jazer hospital.  The ship was ferrying construction materials, including steel, and the crew belonged to various nationalities. The statement added that the ship was loaded with general cargo consisting of sand and iron bars with 20 sailors on board, all rescued by a fisherman in the region.
