Muscat: As part of the efforts to tap the commercial potential of the fishing sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Oman will provide 270 advanced boats and 480 modern fishing vessels with capabilities to use multiple fishing equipment simultaneously and exploit the deep-water stocks.

The government aims to raise fish production to 214,000 tonnes, and also 4,000 jobs by 2023. It also aims to contribute RO40 million to the GDP by this period.

Through this initiative, the ministry seeks to develop the commercial fishing sector by targeting young full-time young job-seekers. These fishermen will be offered easy loans to avail these boats after evaluating their applications.
