4 injured as building under construction collapses

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: APRIL 24 - A building under construction collapsed injuring at least 4 workers some of whom with serious injuries in Al Kamil al Wafi area here. The dome of the mosque building whose concrete works were progressing when the accident happened had at nearly a dozen of workers in and around the edifice, according to PACDA and nearby residents. One of the injured workers said that the jacky that was supporting the dome broke letting the huge chunk of cement and metal collapse injuring the workers. The seriously injured are admitted to Sur Hospital while others were given first aid.

The injured have been identified as expatriates from Bangladesh and Pakistan. “I had a narrow escape as I just came out of the building to fetch some water for my colleagues just before the incident”, Thulasi, a worker engaged in the construction told the Observer. Meanwhile, three worker lost their lives in Muscat when they fell from the rooftop of a under-construction building in Mabela. In the following week, a worker lost his life following a pipeline burst for which the contractor was blamed for not following safety guidelines.  Meanwhile, the PACDA team had to douse a vehicle fire in Mabela, for the second time in the consecutive weeks.
