Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has celebrated the graduation of 360 young jobseekers to work in the aviation industry after sponsoring their training.

The event was marked with a special ceremony at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre to honour their success under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.

The 360 graduates have undergone a one-year training programme at the Oman Technology Institute. They are currently working in the customer hospitality function and airport yard with Oman Aviation Services. All those qualifying join a further 140 who graduated previously and are already working in cabin and ground staff positions at Oman Air.

PDO External Affairs and Value Creation Director Abdul-Amir Abdul-Hussein al Ajmi said: “The success of these young Omanis shows that we remain committed to generating employment opportunities not just in the oil and gas industry but also beyond.

“I congratulate these 360 graduates who have shown their commitment to succeed in their training courses, which has given them the opportunity to build promising careers in a growing sector of the economy and participate in building Oman.”

Oman Aviation Services Chief Executive Officer Dr Khalfan al Shueili said: “I am proud to stand here today as we celebrate the graduation of a group of ambitious Omani youths, who worked hard towards learning and mastering their work, to be contributing to serve this country. This programme has a positive impact on strengthening our Omani professional staff to provide services in a professional manner. We are celebrating another milestone to write in bold in our country’s record of achievements, youth, knowledge, hope, determination and loyalty to the homeland.”

Since 2011, PDO’s National Objectives programme has secured more than 55,000 job, vocational training, redeployment, transfer and scholarship opportunities for Omani jobseekers. This year, PDO has already exceeded its target of creating 17,000 opportunities.
