Muscat, July 26 - Three people were killed and 12 injured when three vehicles collided around 8 pm near Qarn Al Alam, Adam, late on Tuesday.

According to reports, two Emirati nationals died on the spot following the accident which was a result of an attempt to overtake from the wrong side. A Saudi woman died later, sources said.

Both vehicles caught fire after ramming into each other, while another vehicle crashed into a car that had Omanis on board.

As per reports from the UAE media, the vehicle from Emirates was carrying six persons from the same family. Two of them were charred to death.

The Saudi travellers sustained “minor to moderate” injuries.

All the injured were rushed to hospitals.

It may be noted the Royal Oman Police (ROP) had started a special safety drive for motorists using the Adam-Thamrait road in the backdrop of increasing number of fatal accidents on the stretch.

In another incident, an expatriate was killed when a delivery van he was travelling in overturned on Sleem Soad in Marmul, some 800 km from Muscat, on Tuesday night, said sources close to the deceased.
