Three Asian expatriate workers died after they fell into the wooden storage compartment of a cargo ship anchored at the Suhar Port, said the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) on Sunday. The victims inhaled fumes from chemicals used for preserving wooden components of the ship, PACDA said in a statement.
In a statement, the management of Suhar Port and Free Zone said the accident took place at around 9.30 pm on Saturday in one of the general cargo ships, leading to the death of three workers.
The statement also said an inquiry into the incident was in progress.
The port management expressed its condolence to the families of the deceased and stressed its keenness to ensure that highest safety standards.
