Muscat, Feb 7 - The Second International Nursing Conference held at the Sultan Qaboos University Nursing College concluded on Tuesday. The theme of the three-day conference was ‘Transforming Nursing Future, Technology, Innovation and Collaboration’. It was held under the patronage of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Executive President, Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB). The conference shed light on developments needed to enhance and maintain the quality of nursing education and practice to meet the demands of the future. The pre-conference and conference workshops were attended by national and international nurses as well as nursing students.
It saw participants from top universities in Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, USA, UK, Japan, Sudan, India, Iran, Korea, Philippines, Belgium, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar and Australia. A total of 105 conference abstracts were received from 15 countries. The best 20 papers were evaluated and selected for presentation. The first day saw three pre-conference workshops. The first workshop, titled ‘Quality nursing education through programme accreditation’, saw 74 delegates. The second workshop, titled ‘Inter-professional education (IPE) through simulation and translating theory into clinical practice through evidence based practice’, saw 92 delegates.
The third and last workshop, titled ‘Evidence-based practice into day-to-day practice” saw 117 delegates.
The workshops were accredited by OMSB.
Day two began with a recitation of the Holy Quran followed by a welcome speech by Dean of Nursing College of SQU, Dr Omar al Rawajfi. The day saw presentations on transforming nursing through technology innovation and collaboration.
Poster presentations and plenary sessions were also held. The presenters highlighted trends in nursing education and changing educational practices with examples about innovation and use of technology in health care innovation.
The theme on the last day was ‘Concept of globalisation, perspectives and advance practice nurses’. The conference concluded with an awarding ceremony.
All presenters and participants were handed certificates. Three best presentations were rewarded. The best abstract among the 20 selected ones was also rewarded.
It was announced the best abstracts would be published in the SQU journal.
Dr Omar al Rawajfi said: “We are promoting innovative, diverse and scholarly international scientific exchange on transforming the future of nursing education and practice through scholarly approaches to quality and accreditation, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative discoveries in educational technology.”
