29,647 higher education seats for students

MUSCAT: A total of 29,647 (92.4 per cent) seats are available in higher educational institutions for Omani students who have successfully completed their General Education Diploma (GED), Dr Hamad bin Khalfan al Numani, Director-General of Admission Centre, said.


Scholarships and grants are also available to these students in the age group 16-25 years.


The distribution of seats is as follows: government higher education institutions (17,937), internal scholarships (9,588), external scholarships (1,638), private grants for study within the Sultanate (202), private grants for study outside the Sultanate (48) and seats for students with disabilities (234).


According to him, new study programmes have been introduced for external scholarships such as ship design engineering and arts disciplines: ceramics, textiles, wood, leather, metals and jewellery.


While France has been included in the list of external scholarships, new programmes have been added to the internal scholarships of private higher education institutions, namely Pharmacy Programme at Oman Medical College and Nizwa University.


Dr Al Numani said the data updation stage will begin at 8 am on Thursday and end at 2 pm on July 24.


During this period, students can update their programme-selection.


This is the final stage, he said. He said students can register/enrol via smartphone app. — ONA
