Oman’s Council of Ministers has decided to provide jobs for 25,000 Omanis in both public and private sector starting from December this year. The Council of Ministers, at its recent session held on Tuesday, also approved a set of ‘executive steps’ that would be carried out concurrently with the “first stage” of the employment plan. These steps aim to provide suitable conditions that will enable the government to absorb more job-seekers in line with its plans and programmes aimed at achieving its overall objective.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers said: “In implementation of the continuous attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos towards the welfare of Omani youth, the upgrading of their capabilities and the utilisation of their capacities to effectively contribute to the country’s comprehensive development march in the current prosperous reign, the Council of Ministers has reaffirmed it is pressing ahead with all the steps that support this Royal approach.”

The Council has devised plans and programmes needed to provide suitable employment opportunities for the national manpower.

The Council of Ministers has urged all private sector establishments to take the initiative and shoulder their national responsibilities in the issue of employment of Omanis, notably by offering employment conditions that are attractive to Omanis.

The Council of Ministers, which has throughout the year been engaged in ways to realise a suitable and sustainable treatment of all aspects of the issue (employment), has urged the private sector to “accord maximum priority” for Omanisation in their programmes.

“There are actions to be taken against the establishments that do not cooperate with the efforts of the government to support employment and Omanisation policies,” it warned. — ONA
