236,600 Omanis employed in private sector: NCSI

MUSCAT: Nearly 20 per cent 6,718 of job-seekers have been previously employed. The number of job-seekers has dropped by 9,600 to 43,800 by the end of last year, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Job-seekers number registered 34,246 at the end of March this year 38 per cent of whom were university degree holders, 47 per cent were in the age group 25 to 29 years old.


The number of Omanis employed by the private sector stood at 236,600 by end of April, 55 per cent of them (131,000) earn less than RO 500 monthly salary.


Those who earn salaries ranging between RO 500 and RO 1,000 numbered 69,600 while 25,546 Omanis earn salaries ranging between RO 1,000 and 2,000 and 10,505 national earn more than RO 2,000.


The statistics showed that 12,600 nationals occupy senior management positions against 37,000 expatriates. There are 22,100 nationals specialising in science, technology and humanities compared with 81,800 expats in the same areas.
