2,322 Muscat residents use Mwasalat taxis

Muscat Jan 10 - A total of 2,322 residents of Muscat have availed of the Mwasalat taxi service between December 12 and 31. A total of 1,550 customers availed of the service through the call centres, while 5,000 users downloaded the taxi service’s app. Eight hundred bookings were made through the app in less than a month since the service was launched. The taxi service was launched on December 12, 2017 in the first phase at malls and on-demand in Muscat. The airport service would begin in the coming days.


Users can access the service round the clock and from anywhere in Muscat or from the capital to any state in the Sultanate.


The application will help track vehicle data, driver’s name and the estimated time for the taxi to reach the pick-up point. It can be downloaded from Google Play. At present, a fleet of 150 taxis are plying on the roads.


More citizens are ready to join the service because of certain advantages, including the installation of electronic meters, training for drivers on use of technical devices and customer service.


The taxi owners have been offered competitive rates when replacing their vehicles, free health insurance, social insurance and sharing 50 per cent of profits from advertisements on taxis. Mwasalat said the current fares, which are promotional, will be valid until January 31. After that, it will be reviewed. Mwasalat has called on customers to give their feedback for improving of the service. Customers can communicate through call centres that operates round the clock or through its official channels on social networking sites or mobile apps.
