The new four-star hotel, Sundus Rotana, will soon open its doors in Muscat as part of its brand’s expansion strategy for the Middle East other regions. “We are planning the hotel’s soft opening in the upcoming days and we are looking forward to welcoming our guests,” Mark McCarthy, general manager, Sundus Rotana, told the Observer.

He added, “We have 170 staff onboard which will gradually grow to 215. At the moment, our Omanisation rate stands at 35 per cent and we will continue to work in the future toward increasing this percentage.”

On the current market conditions and the upcoming competition, McCarthy said, “We are confident that Sundus Rotana will be an important addition to Oman’s hospitality offering. Muscat is doing well in terms of global standards. There will be some effects from competition as more rooms come into the market. We have already been receiving good enquiries for bookings and events.”

On plans for the future, he said: “There is certainly a Phase 2 of the project but the focus now is to get this one up and running.”

A statement from Sundus Rotana said, “Oman is a burgeoning tourism destination with tremendous potential to equally attract visitors who are seeking nature and culture and business travellers thanks to the government’s long-term infrastructure investments and nurturing business environment.”

Located minutes away from Muscat International Airport and the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, Sundus Rotana will offer residents and tourists three signature restaurants, including the Lobby Lounge café, Ginger all-day dining and a fine dining restaurant Teatro. In addition, the hotel will feature six flexible meeting and conference rooms with an elegant ballroom, as well as the Bodylines Fitness & Wellness.

The new hotel is the second property for Rotana in Oman, after the opening of Salalah Rotana Resort in early 2014, bringing the total number of Rotana keys in the Sultanate to 615.

Over the years, Rotana has evolved its product brands to include Rotana Hotels & Resorts, Centro Hotels by Rotana, Rayhaan Hotels & Resorts by Rotana, Arjaan Hotel Apartments by Rotana and The Residences by Rotana.
