Muscat, Sept 25 - Two people were killed when two cars collided with each other on Misfa Road in the early hours of Monday, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said. The deceased have been identified as Faisal Abbas (29), a Pakistani national, and an Arab woman. The expat employee working in a distribution company was returning home from a restaurant at 1.30 am with two of his friends when the accident occurred. Sources said both of them died instantaneously.

The other two, an Indian and a Bangladeshi, are being treated for injuries at Nizwa Hospital.

According to a report from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), 52 per cent of accidents recorded last August occurred at night.

The main reasons for the increasing number of accidents at night is the presence of fewer vehicles on the road, sleep deprivation, fatigue, lack of attention and low visibility, according to the ROP.

“One should ensure, before driving at night, that he/ she is fit to drive and he/she is not driving under fatigue. If you feel sleepy while driving at night, pull your car to the shoulder and rest for a while before you resume your journey,” said an ROP spokesperson.
