NIZWA, Sept 1 - A total of 152 schools are ready to receive 90,831 students in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah on Sunday for the academic year 2018-19. The Directorate-General of Education in the governorate has completed all preparations for receiving students from all grades. All schools, but for two, will begin in the morning. In two schools, classes will begin in the evening. A total of 8,920 students have been enrolled for the first grade. Suleiman bin Abdullah al Salmi, Director-General of Education in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said: “Most of the preparations have been completed in general. Preparations are currently under way for making other arrangements.”

According to him, one of the most important preparations is the provision of teaching staff and administrative/support staff.

The Department of Educational Needs and Administrative Management Department conducted the ‘internal mobility’, which covered a number of teachers from different disciplines.

The process involved shuffling of transferred teachers in various disciplines and the distribution of teachers coming to the governorate from the other governorates depending upon vacancies available.

Eight committees have been formed for follow-up to determine the readiness of new school buildings.

Schools were provided with books by end of the previous school year in addition to furnishing the new schools and providing teachers rooms with furniture and office equipment. Computer equipment and accessories, photocopiers, air-conditioners and water coolers were distributed among schools depending upon their requirement.

The director-general said: “This year marks the opening of two new schools — Al Dasr Primary School and Um Qais Al Asadiah School.”

Work has also been completed at Al Ghaydaranah School in Adam and Al Ithar in Bidbid. Four new schools are expected to be set up in Nizwa, Izki and Samayil in order to cover the increasing needs of students in those areas. Repairs will be undertaken in five schools across the governorate.

The Department of Planning an Educational Needs has conducted a study on the density of students in different grades, besides a study on administrative and teaching agencies required by different schools.

The HRD Department has completed the technical aspects regarding school planning. All school principals’ plans for this year were reviewed by the Department of School Performance Development. It was also followed up and documented in the educational portal.

A series of training programmes will be conducted by the Centre for Training and Professional Development.
