MUSCAT: Over 136,300 liquefied gas (LPG) cylinders were inspected at inspection stations in various governorates in 2017. Out of 136,301 inspected, 108,838 were returned and 27,463 were cancelled as they were found unfit for use. These cylinders were of 48 litres and 108 litres, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Directorate-General for Specifications and Measurements has said that these LPG cylinders were being delivered to those periodic inspection stations which have the required licences issued by the competent authorities. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the cylinders were checked externally for “rust, base, leakages and discharges.” Hydraulic pressure tests are also done on them. The entire exercise of inspection is meant for implementation of the Omani standards 201/2014 to ensure safety of the consumers against any dangers posed by these cylinders.
