A week-long Tourism Business Forum targeting the travel and tourism firms in the German tourism market and the German-speaking countries, concludes at Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa today, November 1.  The event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, was inaugurated by Salim al Maamari, Director-General of Tourism Promotion, with the attendance of ministry representatives, and almost 70 participants from the travel and tourism agencies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Also present were officials from the Omani tourism representative office in Germany and officials from Oman Air.

The focus on German tourism market in the Omani tourism sector is growing increasingly, as it is one of the most exporting tourists markets to the Sultanate. By 2016, the numbers of the German tourists visiting Oman had reached 72,566, with a growth rate up to 10 per cent compared to 2015, and 49,411 up till September 2017. On the other hand, the Austrian tourists had reached 7,051 in 2016.

The forum is an example of the continuous efforts and initiatives started by the Ministry to promote Oman as a unique destination in the global tourism market and with a special focus on the German market.

The event included a number of activities such as a visual presentation by the Ministry to introduce Oman’s tourism features, its geological, cultural and historical diversity, the major recent tourism projects, infrastructure, and tourist activities in Oman.

The presentation also focused on the calmness and security in Oman which allows tourists to practice all types of tourism activities. A discussion panel also focused on the Omani tourism experience.

Oman Air also presented a visual presentation to summarise important programmes and offers for European tourists. Daily flights to Europe are handled by the national carrier, which are expected to increase with the opening of the new Muscat International Airport. A numbers of tours were also organised to prominent tourism attractions in Oman.

The Ministry of Tourism had established a number of Oman Tourism Representative Offices around the world to attract tourists, by contracting international tourism promotions-specialised companies and organising events and activities that promote Oman as a sustainable and responsible tourism destination.
