MUSCAT: To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), The Zubair Corporation’s (Z-Corp) ‘collaboration team’ recently organised an event to commemorate this year’s theme “empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.”

The event, organised in association with Al Wafa Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children in Al Khabourah, was attended by representatives of the Centre, executives of Z-Corp, members of schools and the ‘collaboration team’.

Around 65 children, both boys and girls with different types of disabilities, attended the event.

Ibrahim al Salmi, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, The Zubair Corporation, said: “The event was an opportunity for us to reiterate our pledge to work towards a society that is inclusive, unbiased and sustainable for people with disabilities. As a community, we must do our best to boost the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all areas of development. The objective of the event was to raise awareness about persons with disabilities and their needs in every aspect of life. As a responsible corporate house, our intention is to make a positive difference through the different activities that we undertake, and we were gratified to carry out this event. We congratulate the efforts of Al Wafa centres which have been rendering yeoman service across the country.”

Al Wafa centres with branches across Oman aim to rehabilitate children who have some form of mental, auditory, physical, or visual disability. Al Wafa centres rehabilitate disabled children between the age of three and 14 by instilling skills in them that enable them to become self-reliant. These centres also provide suitable rehabilitation and training programmes for the enrolled children in order to encourage them to become independent. In addition, they provide educational programmes for the families of the disabled children on how to deal with the disabled, the causes of disability and ways to prevent them.

Fatma al Khalidyah, Al Wafa Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children in Al Khabourah, said: “We are thankful to the Zubair Corporation and its ‘collaboration team’ for organising such a wonderful event. Our centre has been dedicated to encouraging inclusion and well-being of children with disabilities. It is important to observe this day in an appropriate manner in order to raise public awareness on the theme of the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable and sustainable development envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

Yahya al Balushi of ‘collaboration team’ said: “We feel a complete sense of satisfaction in organising events that make a difference in the lives of these gifted children.”

The ‘collaboration team’ comprises a group of employees of Z-Corp and its subsidiaries who participate in community initiatives which are planned and conducted by them.
