MUSCAT: To equip parents of autistic children with expertise to better manage their children, The Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp) organised a training programme titled “For Them” at Muscat recently. Z-Corp has been focussing on autism as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts and hopes to promote patience and understanding of children with autism so they can enjoy active and well-balanced lives.

The training programme “For Them”, conceptualised by the Social Advisory Committee formed by The Zubair Corporation, is designed to train and empower parents with best practices to better manage their autistic children. The Social Advisory Committee consists of eminent personalities from the Omani society who choose social responsibility projects to be undertaken by them as per the society’s needs and priorities.

Previously “For Them” training programme was organised in Salalah Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Mudhaibi.

Several families joined the programme at Muscat which suggested numerous coping strategies for parents to consider while engaging with their autistic children. Specialists, trainers, parents, community members and officials from Z-Corp attended the programme.

Accentuating that “For Them” sessions are held to improve parents’ skills and provide them with support networks, Ibrahim Al Salmi, Social Communication Manager at Z-Corp said, “the parents who took the course have indicated that they have benefitted immensely from this programme.”

Al Salmi added, “research has demonstrated the success rates of training programmes that teaches parents strategies for managing challenging behaviour in young children with autism. We are thankful to the specialists and trainers who participated in the initiative and shared valuable knowledge. We are keen on carrying on with this initiative and helping raise awareness.”

Zahra Al Jardani, member of advisory committee said, “It gives us enormous satisfaction to be able to assist these parents in this challenging journey.

“For Them” sessions offer advice and guidance on strategies and approaches for dealing with autistic children. We help parents better understand autism and build their confidence to manage the children.”
