Muscat: In June 2018, Hisham made history by winning a gold medal in kata in his category, to be the first Omani to participate and win in the World Karate Championship in WUKF in Scotland. More than 2000 participants from 43 countries participated in that championship.

The 10-year-old took few months break from karate to focus in school early September and now continues to practice karate and participates in international championships around the world.

Hisham has won two titles in the World Karate Federation WKF Championships 2018. He added a bronze medal to his title in Luxembourg in October this year in kata being the only Arab participating and winning. He also won a gold medal in the United Arab Emirates Federation Championship 2018/2019 in individual kata category held in Dubai in November 2018.

A little more than two years, Hisham started karate with Ahli Sidab Club with Sensei Yusif al Siyabi and Sensei Hilal al Abdali. He was just eight years old.

He learned discipline and gained confidence. He was encouraged by his masters to participate in national championships where he won many titles. He later learned the true art of karate by the karate founder in Oman Sensei Farid al Shuaibi in the International Karate Academy.

He learned to respect others and gained leadership qualities and that boosted his performance at school. Sensei Farid had been a great mentor for Hisham to this day and he gains his advice and takes any help he can get from him. He later learned kumite and more katas from coach Ali al Raisi. He participated under Al Raisi’s club and earned the club many gold medals in both kata and kumite.

More than anything, the 10-year-old wanted to represent Oman in a major international championship that will draw attention to many young talents like him in Oman. He earned his International Karate Championships, thanks to coach Alex Eli from Romania, Sensei Sayed Aladin Nekoofar and Sensei Sayed JamalAdin Nekoofar from Iran who are his true karate masters for international achievements.

Hisham wishes that one day the Omani Federation will recognise young talents like him and allow children under 12 years of age to participate and carry the Omani flag officially under the Oman Karate Federation.
