MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications, represented by the Directorate-General of Maritime Affairs, on Sunday organised an internal workshop on the safety regulations for small cargo vessels not covered by international maritime treaties in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The workshop was attended by a number of ship inspectors and marine units specialised in inspecting vessels for registration and renewal purposes from the ship registration departments at Sultan Qaboos Port, Sohar Port, Salalah Port and the Wilayat of Sur, affiliated to the ministry.

The four-day workshop included lectures and discussion of a number of topics related to the inspection and certification of this category of vessels, most important of which are the articles of the safety regulation that specified the technical standards necessary to ensure the safety of marine navigation and the preservation of the marine environment from pollution. The workshop programme also included a visit to Bandar Al Rowdha Marina for ship inspection for the purpose of practical application of lectures. — ONA
