MUSCAT: The Research Council (TRC) on Monday organised a workshop on innovation and its fields within the framework of introducing the second stage of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) of Innovation Award, organised by the TRC in cooperation with Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

The stage includes the concepts of intellectual property, research mechanisms in databases, methods of protection, filing and registration of patent applications.

The number of qualified candidates reached 35 who have been selected from the seven centres from across the Sultanate during the past period, as well as the three winners of the Falling Walls competition and the qualifiers for the finals of the award in Germany.

During the workshop, a different set of working papers were presented by a number of experts and specialists, as well as a visit to the innovation factory, through which participants were introduced to the services and successful experiences in this field.

The OCCI Innovation Award is one of the models that aims at enhancing cooperation and partnership between the private sector and various governmental and academic sectors.

It also supports the Omani youth to innovate and direct their ideas to develop products that offer innovative solutions in modern ways. The award includes 8 themes, namely Energy, Health, Food Security, Environment, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Logistics and Tourism. — ONA
