Muscat, July 19 - An Arab woman was arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) on charges of stealing gold jewellery worth RO 1,000.

The crime took place in a jewellery shop in the Wilayat of Samayil in Al Dhakhiliyah Governorate, according to a source from ROP.

He said the ROP received a complaint from the shop owner claiming that a woman, who had covered her face, visited the shop enquiring about jewellery, but quietly made away with gold.

She was caught in Muscat Governorate. She was handed over to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.

In a statement, the ROP thanked all those for cooperating in solving the case by providing it with information.

It urged the people to report suspicious activity on emergency helpline no. 9999 or approach the nearest police station.

The ROP advised shop owners to take precautions when displaying gold jewellery to customers.

It also asked the people to keep off the crime scene until the police have arrived so that the evidence doesn’t get destroyed.
