Winners of HM craft competition feted

Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Dr Rasheed bin al Safi al Huraibi, Chairman of the Tender Board, presided over celebration held by the Public Authority for Crafts Industries (PACI) to honour the winners of the 5th edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Craft Excellence as part of Sultanate’s observation of the 15th Omani Craft Day.


Speaking at the event, Al Huraibi affirmed that the competition reflects the attention accorded by His Majesty to craft industries as they carry great civilisational and national values. Besides, the competition plays a leading role in developing traditional and ancient crafts industries which have passed down through the generations.


Shaikha Aisha bint Khalfan al Siyabiyah, PACI Chairperson, said the competition managed to consolidate the culture of excellence in the crafts sector thus boosting craft industries and contributing to the Sultanate’s economic diversification plans. She added that the Sultan Qaboos Award for Craft Excellence feeds the crafts sector with novel and innovative crafts products.


Representatives of international organisation such as Unesco, the World Crafts Council and the International World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have participated in the judging panel of the competition and hailed the level of crafts industries in the Sultanate.


Hiba bint Ahmed al Rahbiya won the first place in the textile category and was crowned with His Majesty’s Cup. Mubarak bin Khatim al Abrawi calimed the first place and His Majesty’s Cup for fronds category, Mia bint Sulaiman al Hinaiyah won the first place and His Majesty’s Cup for woodworks, Badriyah bint Hashil al Hinaiyah won the first place and His Majesty’s Cup for silverworks.


Wool textile project owned by Badr bin Saif al Abri won the first place and His Majesty’s Cup for excellent crafts projects.
